The Official Web Site Of Writer James Gannon

"Any character who operates on the outside of society and is deemed a freak and an outcast then has the freedom to do what they want." ~ Tim Burton

Welcome to James-Gannon.com, the official website of aspiring author James Gannon, writer of fiction with a dark spirit. This site will supply information for all my works, which mostly revolve around the characters that live in the fictional town of Idle, Rhode Island.  I hope with this web site, I can generate interest for my works and discover an audience.

The majority of the stories revolve around a man named Callous, a dark-spirited teenager who enjoys proving his mettle against the bad guys, seeking eternal payback for the wrongs he felt were done to him in his more light-spirited days. With his newly found sense of confidence and wielding an unforgiving shovel, The Callous One may very well conquer any challenge he faces, no matter what the odds are. Callous is called a "Soldier of Darkness" because that's exactly what he is: someone who fights for his dark beliefs. He isn't a hero who dedicates his life to the good of the common man. He just wants to defeat evil-doers. The two other main characters of my stories are Shadow, Callous' thirteen-year-old apprentice seeking his place in life, and Tammy Corona, a leather-clad beauty trapped in a loveless relationship. Many trials and tribulations await these three anti-heroes that weave through the realms of reality and fantasy.

I handle all the artwork around here.  Drawing was once my first love before becoming fixated on writing.  I never took any art classes, aside from the basic ones taught in school, so everything I do is self-taught to the point where I like to think I have my own unique style.  I have no desire to be an "illustrator", and my pictures will most likely only be shown on this site.  Even I consider them too primitive to appear in print.  Giving visual form to my writings is just another by-product of my creative desires.  They may not be of the highest quality, but I believe that I have enough skill at drawing to convey what is described in literal form.

Here are some brief descriptions of this website's main features:
Stories- Previews and overviews of my finished and in-development books.  Also features a link to the cast of characters featured therein.  Short stories may occasionally be published here.
August The 15th- My web comic, the premise being an exaggerated view of myself and my life.  I am the sole writer and illustrator so any light praise or heavy criticism can be lobbed directly at me.
The Epitaph- Web log (blog) where I drop news about my career, personal musings, and reviews of various mediums such as books, games, mov
ies, and websites.
Art Gallery- Where I show off the fruits of my hobby.  Features pictures I've drawn that are based on my writings, tributes to people and properties I'm a fan of, and personal subjects.

As far as this website goes,
I'm going for simple and to the point.  Despite being the webmaster, I'm definately not a "master of the web".  As I control all aspects of the site and maintain it myself, all information supplied comes straight from the source.

"Fair is foul and foul is fair!" ~The Witches of MacBeth

For eternity, the "Dark Side" has been labeled as encompassing the spirit of pure evil, and the Light as the embodiment of all that is good. (Think Star Wars) As one who has spent his life on both sides of the spectrum, I can tell you that is clearly not the case. That is why in "The Laws of Callousthenics" (a list of thirteen general guidelines that Callous devised to live by) the very first rule states the following: The Darkness and The Light are not decidedly good and evil. It's what is in the heart of the one who utilizes it that matters. Throughout my stories, good and evil will come from the most unexpected sources, much like it can in our own reality. That guy with a bright smile on his face and a cross around his neck could harbor horrible intentions for innocent civilians, while the girl with a devious sneer and decorated with occult symbols could very well be the world's only hope against destruction. If I can dispel the stereotype that all people with dark spirits are cruel in nature, as well as the stereotype that says everyone with a trench coat is packing heat, then I've done a bit of good for society. But in general, I want to provide an escape for whoever picks up one of my books, and if I can entertain, then I've truly fulfilled my goal.
